Overview: The HIPAA Compliance Specialist will ensure that all software developed for medical devices complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. This role is crucial for protecting patient data and ensuring that software solutions adhere to privacy and security standards. The position is remote and part-time, requiring an expert understanding of HIPAA regulations and software development processes in the medical field.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure software compliance with HIPAA.
- Conduct regular audits of software development processes to ensure adherence to HIPAA security and privacy rules.
- Train software development teams on HIPAA compliance requirements and best practices.
- Assist with the risk assessment of software products to identify potential vulnerabilities and ensure risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Collaborate with legal and regulatory teams to stay updated on changes in HIPAA regulations and other relevant laws.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations and their application to software development in the medical device sector.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate software designs and operational practices for compliance issues.
- Proficiency in risk management and risk assessment methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills for effective training and reporting on compliance status.
- Familiarity with software development processes and the technology used in medical devices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Legal Studies, or a related field with a strong focus on healthcare compliance.
- Certification in healthcare compliance, such as Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or similar.
- At least 2 years of experience in a compliance role, specifically dealing with HIPAA in a healthcare or technology environment.
Work Mode:
- This role offers the flexibility of working remotely on a part-time basis.
- Requires the ability to coordinate effectively with multiple teams and manage compliance activities across different projects.
